The Drug King – A Movie Review
The Drug King isn’t a flop by any means. In fact, it’s probably one of the most memorable South Korean movies of all time. It’s an epic story of a man who rules a small nation, known as the Republic of Korea, and is also a powerful leader amongst his people. Kim Sung-Hoo is in love with Jeong-Ho despite his extravagant behavior. Together, they hope to bring peace and tranquility to the capital city, Seoul to their new home. Jeong-Ho is accused of supplying drugs to the undercover Republic of Korea drug officer.
The film opens in the 60s when Korea opens up to the outside world. The government encourages people to travel abroad and the number is rising. One of them is Doo-sam, a South Korean girl who ends up getting involved in the drug trade. They form a bond and Doo-sam becomes more important to the drug kingpin.
Directed by Shimit Amin, the film follows the life of Doo-sam as he deals with the complications that come with running a thriving drug empire. Amin creates a convincing character through his quiet but deadly presence that commands respect. Kim Heo-Jung even adds a small character Park Tae-Soo who is a reporter from Korea for the U.S. news network, and is a key element of the story.
Park Tae-Soo is an interesting character, whose loyalties are torn between his desire to bring the corruption of the Republic of Korea to heel and his need to safeguard the welfare of his young daughter. He wants to safeguard Doo SAM’s wife and children however, he also wants to ensure the security of the street children who he saves each day. The film focuses on the relationship between Doo SAM and Kim Heo-Jung, who is the ultimate Gangsta. Although the two men want the same thing, their differing philosophies prevent them from working together. The film is a mix of comedy and action, as the two men thwart various police efforts to arrest them.
Sang Doo Ri, a Korean film from the same franchise of movies, is another one worth your time. This movie portrays the life and times of a drug lord who tries to bring order and form an dynasty, while governing a nation. Doo-Ri is based upon the true story of Won-Heo-Koo. He guides his daughter Ki-Soo into college where she studies to become nurse. Her father learns of her death soon after and sets out to capture the drug lord who was responsible.
Park Hae-Chul has also directed four films you should look into if you’re looking for some excellent Korean movies that are not about the drug trade. Bong Byung-Gu is one of the most memorable movies of the year. It’s about a young girl who falls for an unpopular street boy. While the film is about love, it also explores the dark side of South Korean’s social problems. The film was an enormous success in Korea and then became a worldwide hit. Park Hae-Chul, who died in 2011, also worked on films such as the Legend of the Three Carriers with Kim Tae-hun.
We can’t forget about The Drug King, a very well-known Korean film that has just come out. Overall, The Drug King makes an excellent film that many people enjoy. The acting is top-notch even if the plot is a bit absurd at times. The musical scene with the dancing North Korean girls is catchy as always and the film is adorned with some beautiful cinematography. The overall effect of the film is engaging and engaging. Although The Drug King does not quite match the quality of its predecessor, Doo-Ran does provide an entertaining and entertaining entertainment for the general public.
